Factors Affecting the Insulation Resistance of PTFE Conductors

Based on our previous discussion of insulation resistance testing of PTFE conductors in hot runner scenarios and the performance differences between virgin and recycled materials, the core factors affecting the insulation resistance of PTFE conductors are as follows:

Material Purity: Recycled materials contain a large number of impurities, which significantly reduces insulation resistance. Pure virgin PTFE insulation resistance can be stably maintained above 100MΩ.

Ambient Temperature: Increased temperature increases the activity of PTFE molecules, causing an exponential decrease in insulation resistance. Insulation resistance at 250℃ in hot runner conditions is far lower than at room temperature.

Ambient Humidity: Moisture and oil adsorbed on the insulation surface can form conductive paths, significantly lowering the insulation resistance.

Mechanical Damage: Cracks and scratches in the insulation layer, and the introduction of conductive dust, directly lead to a sharp drop in insulation resistance, posing a short-circuit risk.

Aging Time: Prolonged high-temperature operation causes PTFE molecular chain degradation, resulting in a continuous decline in insulation performance. The insulation resistance gradually decreases with aging time. These factors directly affect the insulation reliability of PTFE conductors in hot runner scenarios, and targeted management and control are needed to avoid faults.
