How Can Thermocouples Prevent Hot Runner Heater Burnout?

Heater burnout is one of the most costly hot runner failures, often caused not by heater defects but by poor thermocouple performance. Inaccurate, slow, or drifting thermocouples force heaters into unstable operating conditions that accelerate degradation and failure. Properly performing thermocouples actively protect heaters and extend their service life.

When thermocouples lag or read low, controllers apply continuous full power to heaters, causing overheating and thermal stress. This rapidly ages heater windings and leads to premature burnout. Fast, accurate thermocouples prevent such overheating.

Unstable or noisy thermocouple signals cause excessive on-off cycling. Frequent switching creates current surges that weaken heater elements over time. Smooth, consistent signals reduce cycling and lower stress.
