Gate blockage is a frequent issue caused by cold slugs, premature solidification, or carbonized material buildup at the nozzle tip. It leads to short shots, inconsistent filling, and production downtime. Thermocouples play a direct role in preventing gate blockage by maintaining stable and accurate temperature control at the gate area, where melt behavior is most critical.

If the nozzle tip temperature drops too low, the melt solidifies partially, creating a plug that blocks flow. This often happens when thermocouples are slow to respond or placed too far from the gate. On the other hand, excessively high temperature caused by drifting sensors leads to material degradation and carbonization, which also accumulates and blocks the gate. High-response thermocouples positioned near the tip ensure that temperature remains within the ideal range to keep melt fluid without degradation.

In valve-gate systems, thermocouples prevent material from solidifying around the pin, which would cause improper sealing and blockage. Consistent temperature also ensures smooth flow during startup, eliminating cold slugs that can lodge in the gate. Regular monitoring of thermocouple performance helps detect early signs of temperature instability before blockages occur.
