Proper installation practices isolate the sensor from unwanted ambient heat sources to ensure accurate process temperature readings. Thermal conduction along the PRT sheath can carry heat away from the sensing area, creating errors if the probe is not sufficiently immersed. Adequate immersion depth reduces this effect, ensuring the sensor measures only the process temperature. Shielding or insulation protects the PRT from radiant heat from nearby hot surfaces or direct sunlight. Sealed mounting prevents ambient air drafts from cooling the probe and distorting readings. In outdoor installations, weather shields protect against solar radiation and precipitation.
