Professional hot runner designs strictly control the insertion depth so that the thermocouple junction is close to the melt channel without penetrating it. This position provides the fastest response and most realistic temperature reading. Manifold thermocouples usually require deeper insertion to detect the core temperature, while nozzle thermocouples need shorter probes to respond quickly.
