Also, specify the sheath diameter (e.g., 1.0 mm, 1.5 mm) and the overall length (probe length from the shoulder to the tip). Provide a detailed drawing with the probe dimensions, the thread type and size (if any), and the distance from the shoulder to the connector. The cable length and type must be specified: typical lengths are 2–5 meters; the cable should be shielded, with insulation rated for at least 200°C (silicone or fiberglass). The connector type (e.g., DIN 45322, mini-plug, or custom) must be clearly identified, including the pin assignment. If the mold will use a specific temperature controller brand, mention that to ensure connector compatibility. The calibration requirement: specify the number of calibration points (e.g., 200°C, 300°C, 400°C) and the maximum allowable deviation. Include a requirement for a calibration certificate with traceability to national standards. The packaging requirements: thermocouples should be individually sealed with desiccant and clearly labeled with the zone number and part number. Also, specify the quality assurance procedures: the supplier must perform continuity, insulation resistance, and calibration tests on every unit. The specification should also include environmental requirements: resistance to moisture, chemical resistance, and operating temperature range. Finally, include a section on "spares": specify the quantity of spare thermocouples to be supplied with the mold (typically one spare per zone). By preparing a comprehensive procurement specification, you ensure that all suppliers quote the same product, and you have a clear reference for inspection upon delivery. This reduces the risk of receiving incorrect or incompatible sensors, which can delay mold commissioning. The specification should be reviewed with the hot runner manufacturer and the mold maker to ensure alignment, as they may have specific recommendations. A well-defined specification is the foundation of a successful thermocouple procurement and a key step in ensuring the new mold's long-term reliability.
