Husky Thermocouple Specific Alarm Characteristics:
When the thermocouple sends a failure code (for example, OPEN, SENSOR FAULT), the temperature display jumps to the full-scale maximum or returns to zero, and no regular temperature measurement signal is sent.
The thermocouple temperature display swings with significant value drift, deviating from the actual hot runner temperature by more than ±10℃, and cannot be restored even after addressing parameter setting concerns.
If the thermocouple displays a negative value or garbled codes and the problem does not improve after confirming proper thermocouple polarity wiring, the thermocouple is most likely internally broken.
Electrical Performance Test:
To measure the thermocouple circuit, go to resistance mode on your multimeter. If the resistance is infinite, it means that the thermocouple's internal wires are entirely open-circuited and damaged. If the resistance value is significantly higher than the nominal value of a qualified thermocouple meeting the same specifications, it indicates severe internal deterioration.
Determine the insulation resistance between the thermocouple poles and the shielding layer. If the insulation resistance is less than 1MΩ, it indicates that the insulation layer is deteriorated, causing current leakage and thermocouple damage.
Measure the thermoelectric potential output of the thermocouple when it is turned on and compare it to the standard value on the calibration table. If the divergence is much more than the acceptable range, the thermocouple material is deemed damaged.
For quick on-site verification:
Remove the thermocouple from the Husky thermostat input terminal, then short-circuit it with a wire. If the thermostat quickly displays a value close to room temperature, it indicates that the thermocouple, not the thermostat, is faulty.
Replace it with a known, intact thermocouple from the same model. If the thermostat temperature display quickly returns to normal and stable, it is established that the original thermocouple was completely broken.
By combining these three techniques, you may precisely verify whether the thermocouple associated with the Husky thermostat is damaged, preventing excessive losses caused by misjudging the thermostat as malfunctioning.
