Preliminary Visual Inspection: Examine the thermocouple protection tube to ensure that there is no corrosion, cracking, leaking, or other physical damage. The armour wire should not show any visible symptoms of bending or breaking.

Inspect the terminals: Make sure there are no signs of oxidation, corrosion, or loose connections. The insulation layer on the compensating wire should not be broken or exposed.

Quick multimeter test:
Continuity Resistance Test: Set the multimeter's ohm range and measure the circuit resistance across the thermocouple. The resistance of a modular thermocouple should not exceed 2Ω, while a connected thermocouple should not exceed 50Ω. If the resistance value exceeds 1KΩ, the thermocouple is likely open-circuited and destroyed.

Millivolt Signal Test: Adjust the multimeter to the millivolt range and gently heat the thermocouple's sensing end. A typical thermocouple will generate a millivolt signal in response to the temperature. If there is no voltage output, the thermocouple is internally open-circuited and faulty. Insulation Resistance Test: Measure the insulation resistance between the thermocouple's two electrode wires and the outer shell/shielding layer. Insulation resistance should be at least 100 MΩ. If the insulation resistance is less than 1MΩ, it means the thermocouple insulation layer is broken and leaking current, indicating a faulty state.

Operating Condition Comparison Verification: Remove the suspected damaged thermocouple from a Husky thermostat and replace it with a working thermocouple of the same model. If the thermocouple quickly detects a disconnection and the temperature varies abnormally, the thermocouple is proven to be damaged.

Replace the suspected problematic component with a known, intact thermocouple from the same model. If the thermostat temperature display instantly returns to normal, the original thermocouple is likely damaged.

Heat the thermocouple sensing junction and watch that the thermostat temperature display remains constant and does not rise with the temperature; this suggests that the thermocouple is malfunctioning.
