Partially True: While theoretically possible, direct welding repair of PTFE conductors is extremely risky and not universally feasible in practice. This method is not recommended for routine repairs.
Limited Theoretical Feasibility: PTFE material itself can be thermally bonded using special processes such as hot air welding. With strict control of parameters such as temperature and pressure, there is theoretically a possibility of completing the welding operation.
Core Risk of Insulation Damage: The welding temperature of conventional conductors generally exceeds the long-term temperature resistance limit of PTFE (260℃), leading to softening, deformation, thermal decomposition, and even carbonization of the PTFE insulation layer, permanently destroying its insulation performance. This is the most significant obstacle to this repair method.
Long-Term Reliability Cannot Be Guaranteed: Even if welding is successfully completed, the high temperature will alter the crystallinity of PTFE, making it brittle. The mechanical and insulation properties around the weld point will deteriorate, failing to meet the requirements for long-term stable operation of the conductor.
Safer alternatives are available: for PTFE insulated wire connections, low-temperature soldering and mechanical crimping can fundamentally avoid high-temperature damage and are more reliable and commonly used repair solutions in the industry.
