Color consistency is among the most challenging requirements in cosmetic, consumer goods, automotive interior, and visual parts molding. Color shift, streaking, fading, and mismatch between cavities are almost always caused by temperature variation-and temperature variation is caused by thermocouple instability.
Pigment dispersion, shear heating, and melt flow behavior are extremely temperature-sensitive. A change of just 1°C–2°C can alter the visual appearance of a molded part. For masterbatched or pre-colored resins, this sensitivity increases further.
Thermocouples ensure color consistency by maintaining ultra-stable, uniform temperature across all zones. Fast-response sensors prevent temporary fluctuations that cause localized color variation. Uniform sensors ensure every cavity runs at identical heat.
Color molding also requires minimal overshoot, as temporary high heat can burn or degrade pigments, causing discoloration. Premium thermocouples eliminate overshoot entirely.
Many molders blame material suppliers for color inconsistency, only to discover that stabilizing thermocouples resolves the issue completely.
