Many injection molding factories choose ultra-cheap disposable hot runner thermocouples to save short-term costs, replacing them once they fail without repair. Although the initial purchase price is low, there are many hidden disadvantages such as fast aging, large error, high failure rate and induced mold damage, resulting in higher comprehensive loss in the long run and actually not cost-effective at all.

Ultra-cheap disposable thermocouples use recycled inferior alloy materials and uncalibrated bulk products, with large initial temperature measurement error and extremely fast aging drift. After a short time of use, the temperature deviation is obvious, causing hot runner thermal imbalance, product shrinkage, black spots, weld lines and other defects, bringing huge scrap loss far exceeding the price difference of qualified thermocouples.

The structural process is rough, without integrated sealing and anti-corrosion treatment. The sheath is thin and easy to be corroded and perforated by plastic volatile gas, the internal insulation layer is poor in high-temperature resistance, easy to aging and short circuit, and often causes temperature runaway and heating coil burnout. Each failure requires mold disassembly, replacement and debugging, resulting in frequent production downtime and delayed order delivery.

Disposable products have poor batch consistency, and the drift degree of each thermocouple is different. Applied to multi-cavity molds, it will lead to serious temperature difference between cavities, unstable product size and weight, unable to lock process parameters for a long time, and increasing daily debugging labor cost. In addition, inferior products are easy to leave metal debris and welding residues in the mounting hole during replacement, damaging the precision of the manifold hole and affecting subsequent normal installation of qualified thermocouples.

From the perspective of life cycle cost, ultra-cheap disposable thermocouples save trivial initial cost but bring huge hidden losses of scrap, downtime, mold maintenance and quality complaint. Choosing regular brand standard thermocouples with stable performance and long service life is the real cost-effective choice for long-term production operation.333
