Currently, there are no reliable reagent kits for testing the purity of magnesium oxide that can be used for simple on-site testing. Accurate determination of magnesium oxide purity requires chemical analysis in a professional laboratory, such as acid-base titration, hydration methods for determining active magnesium oxide, and ion chromatography for detecting impurities. These methods cannot be achieved with reagent kits.

Why are there no suitable reagent kits?

Complex Testing Items: Magnesium oxide purity requires the determination of multiple indicators, including MgO content, active magnesium oxide, Cl⁻, SO₄²⁻, Fe₂O₃, and CaO, involving different chemical reactions and sophisticated instruments, making it difficult to integrate into a single reagent kit.

High Sensitivity Requirements: Impurity limits are extremely low (e.g., Cl⁻ ≤0.02%), requiring ppm-level detection capability. Ordinary colorimetric or test paper methods cannot meet the accuracy requirements.

Strict Reaction Conditions: For example, the "hydration method for determining active magnesium oxide" requires a constant temperature reaction time of more than 2 hours and has strict requirements for water quality and container cleanliness, making it unsuitable for on-site operation.

Most commercially available "rapid test kits" are qualitative or semi-quantitative products with large errors and cannot be used as a basis for quality release.
