There is no rapid method that can replace professional testing, but a quick initial screening can be performed through appearance, density, and X-ray. Accurate determination of magnesium oxide purity must rely on chemical analysis by a third-party CNAS-certified organization. The following methods are only for quickly identifying obvious abnormalities on-site.
1. Rapid Appearance Inspection (Initial Judgment in 30 Seconds)
Acceptable Characteristics: The powder is white, fine, and free of lumps, and contains no gray-black or yellowish-brown particles;
Abnormal Signs: Dark color, lumps, or deliquescence may indicate the presence of Fe₂O₃, CaO, or moisture absorption;
Procedure Suggestion: Spread a thin layer on a white porcelain plate and observe under strong light.
If trace impurities (such as Cl⁻, SO₄²⁻) cannot be identified, further testing is still required.
2. Portable Density Meter Test (Completed in 2 minutes)
Acceptable Range: 2.8–3.2 g/cm³;
Abnormalities: Low density may be due to high impurities, coarse particles, or high porosity caused by moisture absorption;
Recommended Equipment: Hall effect flowmeter with density meter, suitable for on-site use.
Can indirectly reflect the uniformity of raw materials, but cannot replace chemical analysis.
3. Portable X-ray Flaw Detector Screening (5 minutes/piece)
Key Inspection Points: Whether there are voids, off-center cores, or uneven density in the filled tube;
Resolution Requirement: ≥5μm, capable of identifying micron-level structural defects;
Advantages: Non-destructive, suitable for full inspection of reworkpieces.
Recommended for rapid screening on the production site to improve efficiency.
