A thermocouple that is made by a supplier with a known history of discontinuing products is a high-risk item. A thermocouple that uses a proprietary connector is also a high-risk item. The third step is to monitor the supplier's product announcements. Regularly check the supplier's website and communications for any notices about product discontinuation. The fourth step is to develop a "lifetime buy" strategy.
